What’s the first thing that you think of while planning to explore a new city for a few days? I certainly think about where I will be staying. Because after a long day of exploring or some of those uncalled bad weather days, where you stay is where your home is in the city. It is where you unwind, soak in and process the findings of your adventures. While picking a home, it’s important to make sure that it ticks all boxes to ensure your stay is great and your mind and body are relaxed.
For my recent trip to Philadelphia, I was hosted by the Maj Hotel, a young boutique hotel in Philly. While traveling alone, I was somewhat intimidated by what lies ahead. I guess, a stay at Maj was exactly what I needed to get my first trip to the USA started.
Location of Maj Hotel
The hotel is located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Museum District, at a walkable distance from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The historic points of interest such as the Liberty Bell and the Independence Hall are not too far either.
Maj Hotel is easily accessible by car, 2 minutes walking distance from the nearest bus stop, 5 minutes walking from the Whole Food Markets, and a lot of great eateries and bars in close vicinity.
King Deluxe Room
I stayed in the King Deluxe Room, with a big room and full access to the amenities. My room had a King-Sized bed, sofa, study table with television, wardrobe, and inclusive bathroom, each designed with elegance and high aesthetic. The room had a full-sized window with blackout curtains, the bathroom had a smart mirror with exciting options such as browsing YouTube, Spotify, and other relevant apps. All of these amenities, including room lock, lights, temperature, and television could be controlled digitally.
The only drawback for the ones who prefer brighter rooms could be the lack of sufficient lighting options in the room. Additionally, the pillows provided were a size too big for me, causing some discomfort in sleeping on my first night at the property.
Note: I could not personally access all the digital key facilities due to lacking a USA-based mobile service provider. The hotel is working on ensuring that these services are accessible to all.
USP of Maj Hotel
The need to go digital has not only increased but creates a strong sense of control, especially post-Covid. At Maj Hotel, there is a Digital Key that can be accessed through your phone/ personal devices to control entry, exit, and room controls (lights, temperature) and make your stay extremely convenient.
Maj is a young, boutique hotel, in line with the aesthetically and technological trends. I loved the rustic décor of the room with the brick backdrop.
The common areas had pleasant lighting, plants, games, and a great space to step out of your room and enjoy a conversation even with the staff. PS. The staff is extremely warm, and friendly and pays utmost attention to your needs, ensuring you are well taken care of at the property.
However, in the list of USP its service and the attentiveness of the staff takes the cake. Despite all the contactless options at the hotel, the cheerful staff is there to help you with everything- room amenities, breakfast choices, recommendations to explore the city, or even just a quick chat!
Available Amenities
- In addition to all these facilities, Maj Hotels also offers a fully equipped gym, accessible 24×7 for your workouts.
- A good Wi-Fi is almost considered a given than an add-on expectation, and at Maj, the last thing you’ll have to worry about is the Wi-Fi speed and accessibility. It supports all your devices at once and more.
- For your hunger cravings, a 24×7 snack bar with all sorts of offerings is available. You could buy chips, muffins, coffee, or juice from here.
- For the mornings, the Maj Brunch menu offers a wide range of delicious brunch options, promising the perfect start to your day. I chose a waffle with berries, which was served hot on the plate by the in-house chef.
Cost
The rooms start at $149 and go up to $249 (taxes, fees, and breakfast excluded). For the cost, service, location, and amenities, Maj Hotel not only justifies its asking price but proves to be an economical option compared to similar properties in the vicinity.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Maj Hotel despite the few issues with the tech controls. I only wish I had more time to enjoy the property alongside the leisurely breakfast to make the most of my stay.
