Traveling to beautiful destinations sounds as glorious as it seems. But behind the scenes of all the glory always includes waking up early in the morning, long hours of travel via flights, buses, trains, ferries and a whole lot of walking, often with all your luggage together.
Every traveler deserves a break or as we love to call it, a pampering session.
Our New Zealand trip was overwhelming beyond our plan. There was so much we wanted to do, so many places and activities that we wanted to cover and we had just 20 days to cover it. So, a mid-trip pampering sesh was exactly what we needed! A little over halfway through our trip, we reached Rotorua. The first up on our itinerary was a spa session at the Polynesian Spa. After all, what’s more, essential than self-care?
Polynesian Spa, Rotorua
Located in the Bay of Plenty, Rotorua is one of the most popular cities in the North Island of New Zealand. It is particularly known for its geothermal activity in the region from the Taupo Volcanic Zone. The city of Rotorua is gifted with geothermal springs in the region which are extremely useful for various purposes. As a result of this natural phenomenon, many tourism-based businesses have emerged making Rotorua a major tourist destination in the North Island, New Zealand.
Polynesian Spa in Rotorua is located near Lake Rotorua. The geothermal hot mineral waters of the spa are sourced from two natural springs and are distributed in the 28 pools at the Polynesian Spa.
These mineral waters of the spa are known for their healing effects on various ailments. The alkaline waters from the Rachel springs help nourish the skin. For ailments such as aches, pains and tired muscles, the acidic waters from the Priest Springs do wonders. The presence of both acidic and alkaline natural mineral springs is exclusive to the Polynesian Spa.
In fact, many tourists visit these thermal pools for the healing capacities of these spring waters.
We too headed to experience New Zealand’s original and iconic geothermal bathing experience at the Polynesian Spa Rotorua.
Deluxe Romantic Package | Polynesian Spa
We were booked for the Deluxe Romantic Package which granted us access to 1 acidic and 4 alkaline pools, private deluxe pool, Couples Aromatherapy De-Stress Muscle Massage for 60minutes and lunch and champagne from the menu. We were also given access to the lounge, locker rooms.
This indeed was the perfect downtime idea for some privacy and relaxation after all the rush and crazy on our trip.
Private Pools
As a part of the Deluxe Romantic Couple Package, we spent half an hour in at the Deluxe Private hot water pool with the stunning panoramic view of Lake Rotorua. The private pool came with a private changing room and shower guaranteeing complete privacy.
Deluxe Lake Spa Area
With another 30 minutes to our scheduled appointment, we headed to the Deluxe Lake Spa area which was open to guests above 12 years. This area had pools with varying temperatures and 1 pool with acidic waters with the lake view.
We were told that we could return to the Deluxe Lake Spa Area even after our therapy.
Massage Treatment
After spending an hour in the pools- private, alkaline and basic pools, we were taken to the treatment room by the masseuses assigned to us individually. For the next hour, we were given a full body massage with aromatic oils to help in destressing and relaxation. A special mention to our masseuses- Prerana and ___ who were thoroughly dedicated to making us comfortable and identifying the important pressure points to help us relax.
Lunch
After we were through with our massage treatment, we were treated with some delicious meals that we had earlier selected while checking in.
The food was fresh, tasty and healthy.
The after-effects of our massage treatment were absolutely rejuvenating. After all the traveling and running around, the stress seemed to have vanished for good. The better part was that the impact stayed for long.

5 Reasons To Visit Polynesian Spa Rotorua
If we were traveling to New Zealand even once a year, we would definitely be regulars at the Polynesian Spa, Rotorua.
Here are 5 reasons why we think that Polynesian Spa in Rotorua is a must-visit:
1. Geothermal Bathing Experience
The Geothermal Bathing Experience never sounds exciting at the mention of it. But the experience and the impact of the experience is enough to make you pat your back for opting for the experience.
Personally, we loved the thermal pools in Budapest, Hungary and we were looking forward to our time at the Polynesian Spa. But with the range of temperatures, treatments, and the views, this experience is going to be hard to top!
2. Lake View
We cannot insist enough on the joy of the lake view! On an evening when you’re tired and clueless about life, a dip in the geothermal spring water in the company of your loved one (especially in a private pool) with the panoramic view of the lake as the sun begins to set and the birds are flying around, there’s literally nothing else that you’d want at that moment but to hold on to the peace in that moment. It’s meditative. It’s therapeutic, even without trying.
3. Massage Treatment
Spoil yourself silly! You never really know your need for a massage treatment until you get one for yourself. And once you’re through it, your body feels relaxed and happy and the rejuvenated energies are beyond what you had ever imagined. Pamper yourself, because why not?
4. Relaxation
Traveling and exploring are cool! Adventure is awesome. But relaxation is highly underrated, especially while traveling. Polynesian Spa in Rotorua is just the right place to do the right thing- relax!
5. Highly committed staff
No service can become a memorable experience without the commitment of a highly skilled staff! And one of the things that we absolutely loved at the Polynesian Spa was the committed staff who was all in spirit and person willing to help us out!
We spent a little over three hours at the Polynesian Spa and this was indeed our best investment of time and resources in ourselves! Add self-care to your travel bucket list as well. For whatever reason, you’d prefer- bathing or massage therapy or to explore this experience, a visit to the Polynesian Spa Rotorua is an absolute must experience that you must sign up for!
