Switzerland is that country which is there in every Indian’s wish list all thanks to Yash Chopra. I always wanted to go to Switzerland for snow, chocolates, cheese & mountains.
My trip to Switzerland had a mix of cities, mountains, & leisure towns. I was staying at Interlaken during the entire trip. In this blogpost, I am going to talk about Jungfraujoch – The top of Europe.
Jungfraujoch completely deserves the title of the top of Europe because other mountains look so tiny from the top.
1. The train journey
Being a Mumbaikar, I know about only one kind of train – Train from hell. But Switzerland’s rail network is so amazing that you’d want to stay here for the rest of your life. Compare this – The kind of service & comfort that you will get in your 1st class of Rajdhani Express, you will get that in Switzerland’s 2nd class compartments.
It is not only about the interior, it is also about the kind of things you will see out of your window. Don’t believe me for my words, check out the video below (It looks the best in HD):
2. The engineering
I am not an engineering student, okay? This is about applauding the railway track that goes right through the mountain to the top. I have sat in trains running in mountainous region, but this was the first time I’ve been to the top of a mountain by train.
This doesn’t sound interesting? How about stations that are inside the mountain with panoramic windows offering the complete uninterrupted view of the valley? 😀
3. The view from top
If you are a nature lover, you will be blown away by the beauty of Alps that you will see from Jungfraujoch. The mountains, the snow & the facilities on the top of Europe will make you want to stay here forever. (Tip: You can’t).
Here are some of the pictures that I took from the top:
4. The Lindt Museum
Have you heard of ‘cherry on top’? Experience that saying live on Jungfraujoch. Lindt chocolates have a small museum depicting their history through advanced technologies (When I say advanced, believe me it’s advanced).
They also have a small chocolate shop attached to the museum. You can go directly to the chocolate shop as well if you are not into history (but FREE LINDT CHOCOLATE TO EVERYONE WHO COMES FROM THE MUSEUM).
5. The other attractions of Jungfraujoch
There are a lot of things that will keep you busy on Jungfraujoch. Ice palace is carved out of ice & its a wonder in itself. Jungfrau Panorama shows 360° of the region in a 4 minute film. There is a huge exhibit dedicated to Alpine region, and people who developed Jungfraujoch.
Apart from these. there are few restaurants where you can eat a nice meal. A Lindt chocolate shop & museum, and of course the observational deck 3571m above the sea.
