Our country, India, is known for its long & tiresome passport application process. But gone are the days when you had to wait for months just to get a passport, the ministry of external affairs has issued a fresh set of guidelines on required documents & processing time.
4 Documents -> 7 days -> Passport.
According to a series of tweets by the minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj, now fresh applicants will only require 4 documents. They are:
- Aadhar Card
- PAN Card
- Voter Identity Card
- Annexure I (Declaration of citizenship, family details and no criminal record)
1. If you submit application with copies of Aadhar, Voter ID and PAN Card with an affidavit of no criminal case, we will issue the Passport.

2. The Police verification will be done later.

3. You can choose any appointment date from the earliest five available dates for Passport related services.

If you have these documents ready, simply fill up the application form, attach the photocopies, book an appointment online & submit the documents at your nearest PSK. If your documents are proper, you can get your passport in as little as 7 days. Now that’s efficiency!
Few days ago, the mandatory police verification system has also been scrapped. Your application will go forward even without police verification. Luckily, now you don’t have to ‘request’ or ‘gift’ your area’s policeman to come & verify your address so that your application moves forward.
2016 is indeed a good year to get your passport (If you don’t have it already).
